What’s up sports fans? If you’ve been following my blog then you know I owe you an apology. I didn’t cover a few of the local games that have been going on. It’s because I’ve been extremely busy. Trying to cover allbayareasports is and can be difficult. Trust me this isn’t an excuse, just the truth. Le’ts face it I’m playing catch up right now. I didn’t cover the Niners vs. Tampa Bay game and I should’ve. It wasn’t much of a game but it did have it’s surprises.  A 48-3 lopsided surprise. But let’s face another fact. San Francisco has changed their critics view of them as a team. They had a rookie head coach, an inconsistent quarterback, a running back who some say had injuries that were signs of his old age. Frank Gore  proved to them with age comes efficiency. The 49ers offense had more false starts in this game then I’ve ever seen in history of watching this franchise. Harbaugh’s coaching staff deserve a big pat on the back. On two separate occasions the coaching staff elects to go on 4th down and it payed off. They realize that if they’re going to win games they have to trust their players.

The 49ers also have rookies who don’t know the league, no stand out receivers, and were coming off of seasons that were less than stellar. When you add in a division that most spectators in the NFL laughed at, it just made a recipe for disaster. But San Francisco didn’t focus on those things. Didn’t care about the past. Really it’s something that most of us should do when we are out to capture a goal.  San Francisco is at the top of the NFC West at 5 – 1. Three of those wins were on the road and they weren’t against any slouches in the league. Beating Philadelphia was a work in progress, and they had to deal with the talk from Tampa Bay about how they were going to drag the Niners all over the field. Those wins showed the critics to reconsider this team. The win in Detroit would make the critics get their erasers out and make some more corrections. San Francisco went into what is now a very intimidating place to play. Ford field has been revitalized, so have the Detroit Lions, and their fanbase. A team that was unbeaten at 5 – 0 and some aficionados believe that they would win the NFC title.

The Niners say “Not so fast.” San Francisco went into Detroit into what their fans have dubbed “The Lions Den” and tamed Detroit with a 25 – 19 win. This was a game that as I stated to some of my friends, would come down to the last quarter. I thought San Francisco could get the win if they outlasted the Lions in the fourth quarter. This was a game that got heated, but I don’t think the players got as heated as the coaches did. Because as the game ended both Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh got into a shoving match, and then the players got into it. By the end of altercation it was followed by everyone walking into the locker room. Which makes you wonder why it is that players and coaches start things on the field anyway. After all there isn’t going to be any real fighting because security will be breaking it up before any real damage is done. Everyone who gets on the field knows that it is a contest, there will be winners and losers. If you can’t handle losing then you probably shouldn’t play the game. I think after watching what happened Jim Schwartz shouldn’t being in the game. The Niners should be commended on the way they handled the entire situation in Detroit.

They went into a hostile environment and came out with a victory.  Harbaugh will take the blame for what happened between him and Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz, but on camera it clearly looked like Jim Schwartz lost control.  “I went to congratulate Coach Harbaugh and got shoved out of the way,” Schwartz said after his team’s 25-19 loss. “I didn’t expect an obscenity at that point. Obviously, when you win a game like that, you are excited, but there is a protocol.” “I’m sure it is on video, and you can see it,” Schwartz said. Well I wasn’t on the field so I’m not sure what really caused the two coaches to want to get upset but it just looked like Jim Schwartz was the instigator in this thing. But Harbaugh say’s otherwise. “That’s totally on me,” Harbaugh said. “I shook his hand too hard.” Frank Gore finished with 15 rushes for 141 yards and a touchdown. Matt Stafford was 28 – 50 for 293 yards. The Niners defense stayed stingy only allowing detroit 66 yards on the ground, and the Lions breakout receiver Calvin Johnson put up 113 yards. But the defense applied intense pressure to get the win.

“Matt didn’t have a whole lot of time today,” Schwartz said. “We had a hard time getting the run game going. When it’s one-dimensional that way, and I think it was, you’re going to have a difficult time.” Alex Smith had 125 yards passing but they were significant yards because they were much needed yards for a road victory.  “I’ve never been a part of anything like this, especially since I’ve been a pro,” Smith said. “The defense played unbelievable today. They deserve all the credit.”  One of the reasons why is  the Niners defense sacked Stafford 5 times. Two of those times was by a rookie stand out in San Francisco who’s slowly but surely making himself known around the league and his name is Aldon Smith. Mr. Smith had his  sacks and forced a fumble which confused Detroit’s offense. San Francisco is in first place in the NFC West and have earned a much needed rest with their Bye week coming up. But can they stay at the top? What do you think? Tell me your side of the story. Remember folks it’s ALLBAYSPORTS.COM. Bay Area Sports Magnified.
