Sharks Rewrite Their Own History With Game 7 Victory, Advance To The Western Conference Finals San Jose 3- Detroit 2

Posted: May 14, 2011 in Hockey, San Jose Sharks

What’s up sports fans? Whew! I’ll say it again, Whew! Sharks get over the hump and prevail to go on to the Western Conference finals by beating the Detroit Redwings 3-2 last night and give Shark fans room to breathe, and we can thank the one guy who’s been getting a rough time in this series Patrick Marleau. After being called “gutless” by his teammate Jeremy Roenick he responded as needed. “He’s a world-class player,” coach Todd McLellan said. “He’s won in a lot of pressure situations. We believe in him that much. He was a difference maker tonight.” I’m glad coach McLellan feels that way, cause a couple of day ago a lot of people didn’t feel that even some of  Marleau’s own teammates. After three straight losses the win comes at the best possible time, when the Sharks really needed it.

I know that no one is going to remind themselves that I said the Sharks are going to win Lord Stanley’s Cup. The road to that victory continues as your San Jose Sharks beat Detroit and will advance to take on the Vancouver Canucks for the Western Conference Championship. This is fitting because this franchise has seen it’s share of disappointing seasons, and now they have a legitimate chance to change the history of their franchise. If I’m Vancouver I’d be a little nervous. Sure the Sharks showed in that last series that they are human, but to find a way to get the series is what matters. Right now they have proven that your going to have to convincingly beat them, you can’t just win a few games and think “We’ve taken away their resolve.

They won’t come back from the way we beat them in that last game.” I got new for ya, Joe Thorton didn’t think so,  “There’s a lot of doubters who said we probably couldn’t do this,” captain Joe Thorton  said. “But that’s two years in a row we beat a pretty good team. We’re a pretty good team now, too.” I don’t think anyone thought San Jose wasn’t a pretty good team, they just wanted to figure out a way to beat the Sharks and be in the position San Jose is in right now.  Detroit now knows what it’s like to have to go into a uphill battle, “It’s not easy being down 3-0 and having to win four games,” Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom  said. “I felt like we had the upper hand. But you never knew the outcome of any game until the end. At the end, it’s still disappointing to win three games and come back here with a chance to win or tie it in the final minutes and then fall short.”

Antii Niemi had one of his best game of the series he stopped 38 shots on 40 attempts which really games San Jose the breathing room to get the job done. Devin Setoguchi scored and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the RedWings but it was Patrick Marleau who delivered when it was really needed.  “It was just nice to have it over and have us on top,” Marleau said. “They played great the whole way through. It was just nice to be able to shake hands and come back in here.” So Sunday May 15 Sharks vs. Canucks who will win? I thinking San Jose. What do you think? Let me know tell me.
